Occupational health, safety and welfare (OHSW) is often perceived as one of life’s unavoidable burdens, with an abundance of cumbersome rules, regulations and procedures. However, a systematic approach to health and safety encourages a perceptual and cultural shift to a proactive focus on people and safety in the workplace. The intent of OHSW legislation and policy should be to look after individuals -the people in your team, those that you “car-pool” with daily, your friends from work and of course, you.

The internet and health care sections of book shops are literally awash with information about fish oil, extolling the virtues of daily consumption. There are a number of studies that suggest fish oil is implicated in improved memory, easing of joint pain, improved moods, better mental health and of course a reduction in cholesterol. What does this mean for a sceptic like me?
