Wicker furniture can give you many years of use if properly cleaned and
cared for. Outdoor furniture may be handy throughout almost all areas
of the world. Wonderfully durable and beautifully able to withstand the
ravages of weather and stress.
Wicker furniture is popular both
for indoor and outdoor use. To clean the wicker use a moderately stiff
brush and use small brushes to get into the creases.
Overly
low humidity will cause your wicker furniture to become brittle and
fragile. It will help if you wipe the furniture occasionally with a
cloth dampened with water.
One most effective way in
protecting your wicker furniture from damage is regular dusting. You
will need to clean it regularly with the brush attachment of your
vacuum cleaner. Using water and a mild detergent wash the wicker and
scrub it with a sponge or scrubbing brush. Gently dry the surface of
your freshly cleaned wicker furniture with a soft towel.
Once a year you should wash with warm soapy water and a soft brush. Than rins with the garden hose.
To
clean mildew stains, use a mild solution of one-cup bleach plus two
capfuls of dish detergent per gallon of water. Dry the furniture as
well as possible, as wet or damp wicker will take on a new shape very
easily. To protect your furniture, you can apply a new coat of varnish
to it every few years, or when you can see excessive cracking in the
coating.
If wear and tear is becoming apparent on your wicker,
you can apply paint by brush or spray. If the piece of furniture was
painted you will most likely want to strip it. Apply the stripper with
a brush, liberally coating the piece. A spray-on stripper may be the
easiest method to use. Let it sit overnight and than scrub gently with
a small scrub brush.
You can use spray paint to paint your
wicker furniture,
make sure you perform the procedure in a ventilated area, preferably
outdoors. Finally, apply a thin coat of liquid furniture wax to it to
give it a good, glossy finish.
